Default Model A Body Restoration

I have a 13 SW 4 door Towncar Sedan. I need a reference book that I can refer to that would help me in restoring the body, doors, window, interior, and seats.

What would be the best reference that I should have?

You have the car (it's worth a thousand words), as you dismantle it, take photos of everything, so you know how it was when you started. Start asking if anyone else has a car like your's, and ask to have restoration photos from their efforts.

Save everything, and start a journal.
Pictures are invaluable.

Get Les Andrew's Model A Mechanic book. The "red" one. It will guide you through quite a bit of your restoration.

And, as said, make sure you start a pictorial record of your progress. before; during and after. Most valuable.

And, best of all, take advantage of the vast knowledge right here on the Barn.. Great guys; great advice..

I have the "red" one. It does not cover body restoration.

You need the Restoration Guidelines and Judging Standards.

Your best reference is to ask questions here and be sure to know how to post pictures.

There are no specific books on slant window bodies. There is the town sedan group and those who have gone down that road here. A couple of guys have websites with many pictures and will be very happy to help you.

Besides all of these suggestions, make sure you join your local Model A Club. They are a great wealth of information and help. Also join the National Organizations. The taking photos is a very important suggestion since it will be a while before you place it back together. Good luck and enjoy the journey.

You have a 31 SW 4 door TOWN SEDAN, not a 4 door Towncar Sedan.

John,

Post a picture of your car. You need the practice and we would like to see the car. If you want a place to practice posting photos there is a "Test Forum" under the "To the editors Section".

I would get the book The Ford Model A as Henry Built It, lots of good pictures and explanations.

As it has been eluded to, there is no restoration manual specific to the '31 Town sedan. You will need to look at several references to obtain the information and as Larry stated "And, best of all, take advantage of the vast knowledge right here on the Barn.. Great guys; great advice.."

Suggest getting as many parts vendors' catalogues as possible for replacements reference, to compare sheet metal and other parts, if originals aren't available to you. Patch panels are available, for example, if you want to go that way.

You just posted two good pictures of your car. Post pictures of any specific areas and ask questions. Flop, Marco, and Brent Terry have posted many good pictures of excellent body work being done on Model A's. A search using their name and the area of the car in question may turn up those pictures.
