Default Amp Guage Nut Tool

I finished up my amp guage restoration this week and needed a good way to tighten the special nuts on the back of the guage. I had seen the special tools that some folks had made, very nice but not something I could make. As I was cleaning off my workbench today I ran across a piece of Model A fuel line that I had cut up, it was the 90 degree bend.

I got my dremel tool and file out and ended up with a "low tech" tool to tighten those special nuts. It took 15 minutes to make, and worked great.

Dan, you're the man! Nice cheap tool. BTW, how did you make the right angle notches in the end of the gas line? Did you use a tiny tipped bit? I have used a Dremmel and RotoZIP (my favorite, as it has a nice handle on it) to dress down welds and grind metal, but trying to make a nice right angle notch is tough to do for me.

I use my 90 degree, pointy, Snap Ring Pliers---
One Guy ground a DEEP relief in a screwdriver tip, with a cut-off wheel, & it did quite well. You only have to tighten them every 37 YEARS!--LOL

Rusty, I used a little cut-off disk on my dremel tool, it was a little worn to about the size of a nickel. I had the tubing in my vise and then took the cut-off disk straight down to the end of the tubing leaving the center notches roughed out. Then I finished it off with a file. I tapered the pins sticking up just a little to match the shape of the grooves in the nut.

If I was going to do this a lot I would cut it and weld a T handle on the main shaft.
