Whatever we may say about modern cars, They are certainly MUCH safer than cars of that era. I'd rather be in my Toyota than my Model A if I'm involved in a crash.

I wonder how many people would drive more carefully if wrecks were left by the side of the highway.

They probably wouldn't even notice them. Seems like more and more drivers have their heads buried in their phones nowadays instead of paying attention. I drove 1,600 miles round trip over the holidays and the amount of single vehicle accidents I saw on the side of the road was concerning. I saw people drifting between lanes or off onto the shoulder, one guy scraped the steel barrier on the side of the road.

Driving while on the cell phone should carry a similar penalty as a DUI

It does here! We even have cameras mounted high along the sides of busy roads taking pictures of people using their phone or not wearing their seat belt etc while driving. They are usually set up with speed cameras.

YES!!!!!!!!!!! And, going to work in the morning a fair amount of the time at rush hour a little mario andretti is going wild.

I don't get it; the insurance companies led the charge to get seat belt laws. However, they don't say squat about these cell phones. Put a local scrambling device on the cars, unless someone is in the passenger seat (sensor already there for air bags). Government can mandate every other little device.

Looks like they should have outlawed Trees and Poles as they seemed to jump out in front of several people......
