Default Headlights/Wiring Harness

I need to buy a wiring harness for my for my 1930 Pickup. I also need to buy new reflectors for the headlights as they are fairly dull. The present reflectors are for 2 bulbs. I do not know the differences in function between the two bulb and one bulb system. I would appreciate some help in trying to determine which to buy. I also need to but the switch assembly on the end of the steering assembly.

Thanks ror your help

Bob

Pickup 30 has the two bulb. for High/low Beam and running light. The light switch is one click to left is running lights, right one click is lowbeam/two clicks to right is high beam. If you have the original reflectors you can have them resilvered.

Gary -

Thanks of your help. It leads me to two other questions.

Do I have to buy a unique switch for the two bulb system and where can I get the reflectors resilvered?

BTW - I enjoyed your website.

Avoid the temptation of just buying new reflectors. Many of them have the wrong shape and will not focus properly. Call chrome plating shops and ask them if they do silver of know someone that does. Contact UVIRA ((541) 474-5050) if you want the best (and therefore the most expensive). Check out UVIRA in the archives. The cars with cowl lights had only one bulb in the reflector. Of course your truck did not come with cowl lights and would have only two bulbs in the headlight. The same switch is used for both configurations, only the wiring harness was different to light the cowl lights or the second bulb in the head light.

I've seen repro reflectors made with the notch in the wrong place by 90*, so the filaments in the bulb are vertical, instead of horizontal.

I do have Volume 1 and 2 . I sometimes forget to check there as I think I have a unique problem. In truth I never thought to look.

Thanks

Sacramento Vintage Ford builds in their own shop an excellent wiring harness that looks and functions like the original.

get an original switch if you can. The repros are troublesome. One source for original switches is Berts in Colorado. Another for re-plated switches is Dan Bixby, who sells as phonconn on ebay. Switches are for 28/29 and 30/31, the difference being the larger end bulb and wire bail. Either will work on your truck as long as you have a matching bail, but you might as well get the correct one for your year.

Interesting observation, Tom! Many of the lousy replacement bulbs, in addition to having a linear rather than a V filament,
have the plane rotated 90*. Perhaps those reflectors were made to compensate?
Do two wrongs make a right??
