top MPH at the drags
We have been close but never at or over 140 mph at the drags in our dragster,
Last week end with our A/F logger not working, and using the EGT,s to set the fuel mixture,we did one run at 139.22 then one at 140 .02 then the best at 140.32 mph, missed the final by .02 sec,but a good day, Also a member came(Danny lives Here) along to help out,he took the videos that are hopefully below. If not go to supercharged flathead dragster on youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SoiJUxbqWbU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9siZXr_KcAEhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=esasQBrBBYA Last edited by Lawrie; 07-25-2017 at 09:07 PM. |

Re: top MPH at the drags
I suppose I will never outgrow the love of a racing engine. Especially the Flathead Ford V8.

Great job, Lawrie - the flathead lives on, and on, and on ..... and as it has been said before, that baby does really scoot!

Re: top MPH at the drags
Some awesome runs Lawrie!! Some of us only dream about doing these kinds of things, but you're actually doing them. That supercharged flathead sounds so good and runs so strong going down the track.

Re: top MPH at the drags
Thanks guys, yes it is good fun, all the family is involved, wife carol drives the tow car, sons drive, brother sets up the shade tarp, and brings his BBQ,
Bubba,6300,Rev limiter set @6400. Sidevalvev8,we use an old GM made 3 speed auto from the early 70,s known as a trimatic,I think you know it as a T180,has my home made stuff inside , I need to get my A into G and get to making a new chassis from Chrome moly tube, plans are to get it about 200lbs lighter, We are only going easy on the current engine, but want to build another so we can ,as my boys say .lean on it it a bit more. If a picture's worth 1,000 words, a video is priceless. Thanks for sharing.

Re: top MPH at the drags
13 psi, have been as high as 18 but had a lot of drama with heads and gaskets,(self inflicted)
Now have home made solid heads and solid copper gasket, with a .040 ss wire in a groove around the chamber, and no drama. lawrie |
