Possible gas leak
I was taking a close look at my dash photos and saw what looks like a leak or a one time old leak in the gas gauge. Can these leak to the inside?

Re: Possible gas leak
Yes they can leak inside the instrument panel however generally not inside of the speedometer.

Re: Possible gas leak
This is one reason I do not leave our car with a lot of gas in the tank.
If still leaking, needs new gasket. Very common. Easy fix. Once fixed, I still would not leave car setting for any extended length of time with a lot of gas in the tank. Enjoy. |

Re: Possible gas leak
I have looked at gasket and rebuilding kits an it looks like a piece of cake to do. Not to be one to reinvent the wheel, I am wondering why O-rings are not used. I have rebuilt hydraulic cylinders in my backhoe and others on all types of equipment and I would think the O-ring materials would be better.

Re: Possible gas leak
rubber (or neoprene?) gaskets were sold at one time but tended to leak quickly.
cork with a little Permatex is your friend here. borrow or buy the special tool set to remove the gauge parts, it's worth it.
