Default Coil testing machine

Hi Guys,
Right off I must admit I know very little about your beloved Model T's. The fact that they are cool is nearly where my "knowledge" ends.
So, here's my request:

I have a coil tester, um, I believe that's what it is, and would like to know more about it.
Rarity? Desirability? And yes, value.

Thanks in advance.

Do a search of "mtfca; HCCT" HCCT = Hand Crank Coil Tester.

Well, duh. Why didn't I think of that?

Very interesting things to be found in regard to these machines. Thank you!

I have yet to find any advice on value.

I have zero use for this machine.

Thanks again!

There are several types out there. Some folks will pay up to $700 or more for these depending on type, how complete they are, and condition of parts. They are still the easiest way to test the old model T trembler buzz box coils. I don't know which is considered the best one.

I've seem home made ones that use a model T flywheel and pickup.

Nice thing about these are, the fact they used stock coil ring/flywheels. That can really cut down on shipping cost as buyer can supply their own. While coil tester for sure not junk, those meters, one out of the two might be rebuildable, the other would be questionable. You might try posting on the Model T Ford Club of America site and ask, or just put an ad there in the classifieds. You might start out at 600 and can come down from there. You could say for local pickup, and would be willing to take the flywheel/coil ring off for shipping. Still, even with that weight removed, could get spendy for shipping.

Hey Kube,
I have an ALLEN coil testing machine that looks exactly like the one in your photos. Some collectors will buy them. They're doesn't seem to be a lot of replacement parts for them, but you never know what you might find on the 'net. Good luck with the project. You might Google Ron Patterson, the Coil Man for his contact info. He seems to know a lot about them and might help you find a buyer.

P.S.
I own a '40 Ford too and recently bought your 1940 restoration book which I really enjoy!
