Default Up to Date Info on a 6 Volt Fuel Pump?

I got one car just needs a little boost sometimes to start. And I'd like to have a 6v pump around the shop anyway. Seems like not long ago I studied this out, everybody was liking a certain Facet pump, or maybe a Purolater. Well I guess it must have been a few years ago. I spent 2 or 3 hours googling: seems facet quit making the pump, Purolator sold out to somebody offshore, etc.,etc.,etc. Search out 6v pumps, man, you don't know what you're looking at.

So the question: anyone bought one recently they're pleased with? The kind the mechanical pump will suck through? Thanks a lot!

Check the Airtex E8902. Low pressure, allows pass through. Available from various suppliers - under $40.

Whatever you get, make sure it does not have a
rubber diaphragm that will turn to "mush" when subjected to gasolene.
The old WALBRO pumps come to mind.

My Airtex has worked great as a startup helper for years. I only use it for priming after sitting for a long time.

Is that a fuel pressure regulator attached? If so what is the PSI and does it come with the pump.
Thanks, Tom

I guess that's what I meant by up-to-date. These E8902s don't seem to be around much any more. Sears shows one for $140.

Poking around on Summit Racing site I found some info. I'll have to look again. My eyes are drooping as it's late.

Tom, That is a fuel filter attached to the rear of the pump. I have used these E8902 Airtex pumps for years with no problems.

Stay Safe,
Pat

The Airtex should be the one in the Macs catalogue and website. It’s where I bought mine.

I have heard that one could run a 12-volt fuel pump on 6 volts and that it would operate at lower pressure. Is this possible?

I did a fuel pressure test with the 6 volt Airtex on my ‘46, and it puts out 3 psi. That was done using a high quality 0-5 psi gauge, so no pressure regulator needed.

Purolator/ Facet pumps can be a pain in the ***! The are/were filled with a gas to help stop contact arcing but the gas would leak out and the pump would quit. tap it with something and they would start up again for whoever knows how long

I've wondered, too, cause there was always this Carter looking pump in the Mac's catalog said it could be run either 6 or 12. I have a couple of similar looking 12v pumps here, (different numbers on them) tried them on my 6 volt battery......nothing.

We're car guys; someone should try this. (Back in the day, I spent more on beer in one night that one of these pumps would cost.)

Don't ask me; I am one of those who believe that the Ford engineers got it right the first time, and that electric fuel pumps are "band-aids".

Denny, a band-aid, in this case, is what I need. That is, someone else owns the car.

(I just slop gas down the throat of my own cars).
