Some years ago a man I knew wiped his shotgun down with WD4O then put it away in the closet. When he told me what he had done I told him that WD40 drew moisture,he checked the gun and it was covered with a film of rust.

Do not use it in your engine !!!!!!!

Read the labels of various products at your local parts store. Something like PB Blaster Lubricant (not Penetrant) may work.

Fogging with Marvel Mystery Spray is the best solution.

Nobody mentioned the fact that you can buy a re-fillable aerosol spray can from Harbor Freight for a few bucks. Put a little motor oil in that sucker and pressurize it. Then, spray your oil through an open spark plug hole. I’ll guarantee that you’ll get oil everywhere you want it.

Not really sure about that. Fogging is the way to do it.

I use 'used' ATF fluid for nearly everything, including equipment storage, internal combustion engines, etc...works great and is cheap !
That said, auto stores sell 'fogging oil' spray cans , and I use this for same reasons and purposes. IMO, either method and you will be happy with outcome. Good luck.

I used it all the time in my air tools. Good stuff, and less expensive than many other oils.

If you have water inside your cylinders...ok.
If there is no water, WD-40 is not the right tool for the job.
You cannot have rust without water. Displace the water and you will have no rust.

Exactly right SeaSlugs...a gummy mess! That's been my experience too.

When I was going to school for aviation repair and maintenance, our professor said that if anyone was caught using an adjustable wrench or WD-40 they would be booted out of class for the rest of the day, and he meant it.

WD-40 did some kind of massively successful marketing campaign many years ago. Here we are well into the information age and WD-40 is still used by many, many people for all kinds of situations.

Most people say they use it as a lubricant, but they give little consideration to what happens to it only a short time later.

I'd add winterizing oil to the gas, run it around the block, park her. Add nothing into the cylinders, and it's important to toss the WD-40 in the trash, it's marginally good for removing rust. If you insist on messing with her cylinders, treat them with MMO and sleep well.

My experience is in the open air, over time WD40 evaporates fairly completely and provides no corrosion protection at all. It's not really suited for some of the tasks that people use it for, but that's no reason to malign it. It's just the stuff for spraying out the inside of a wet distributor cap, wiping crud off the wires, say. It has its uses. It used to be popular as a starting fluid when the propellant was different, like many things manufacturers "improve" their product over time.

That reminds me of a joke about wd40, but probably it would offend someone, so I will refrain from posting it.

Like Paul, I dumped a few gluggs of marvel mystery oil in the gas tank, ran it around the block (that's 10 miles around here) and put it away with the battery tenderizer on it. Same routine for more years than I can remember. If we get some snow and the town does not salt the road, I will take it out for some fun. Otherwise it stays in the barn until the roads are dry.

Here is today's Model A of the Day photo from MAFCA.

Having said that. For more years than I care to remember, we have done the same thing without any spring surprises.

As little gas as possible in tank with MMO and stabilizer, check tire pressure, grease and oil everything, drain radiator, moth balls under seat and in rumble seat area, run carburetor dry, car cover. I also charge battery every month or so. Change oil in spring.

Has always started right up in April. Enjoy and Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays to everyone.
That could be dangerous. An empty gas tank is an invitation to condensation. Water in the gas tank is not a good thing. What I do is drain out any ethanol gas left in from summer running, and fill the tank to the top with ethanol free gas. Then I shut off the fuel valve and let the engine run until it stops so there is nothing left in the carb bowl. The she is then ready for her winter sleep!

I'm with you on that !

Now there is comment on winterizing the fuel tank. Top it off with Sea-Foam well mixed into the fuel. The 'more fuller' the better. Run the motor with the Sea-Foam mix and shut off the fuel and let the engine die. Take out the sparklers as mentioned previously, dump some ATF in each hole and spin the engine over. Reinstall the sparklers. Slow charge the battery just for the heck of it and you're done. Do what you like as far as putting it off the tires or not.
Mouse proofing it may be a good idea.

Sorta like my x wife's cooking. "Put a brick in the pot with the chicken, and when the brick is soft, the chicken is done."

I was going overseas for 9 months. So I gave my motorcycles a good shower of WD40 before I left. When I got home they were both rusted.
