Default Brake/Clutch pedal "slop"

The brake and clutch pedal at the pivot point have side to side "slop" or play. Is there a bushing internally that needs to be replaced? What is the fix?

Thanks

40,
What joy fun thing it is remove and rebush pedals with the body on the frame.
When my '41 1/2 was apart I had great access to the pedal bracket and redid the
whole assembly. What I found was excessive side wear on the pedal bosses and
the radial bushings gone. The wear was so great I ended up making a new pivot shaft
and boring out the bushing diameters in the pedals way oversize because the
pedal shaft wore right thru the bushings into the steel bushing boss. To take up the
side wear I refaced the sides of the pedal bosses and made up the difference with
homemade bronze washers.
Not to drag this out any longer......I'd sure try to remove the entire
pedal/bracket assembly and get on the bench and go from there.

Yes there are two bushes plus a central washer, you can buy these from the usual parts suppliers, also the main shaft can be replaced too.

35,
I'm pretty sure Ford shrunk the main shaft into the bracket. Mine was so tight
I had to drill it to relieve the press fit.

YES, THAT IS A COMMON PROBLEM. there IS A BUSHING IN BOTH THE CLUTCH PEDAL AND THE BRAKE PEDAL. yOU NEED TO TAKE THE PEDAL ASSEMBLY OUT OF THE TRUCK (NOT AN EASY TASK) AND REBUSH BOTH PEDALS. GOOD LUCK

There are a lot of different cars out there what year car are you talking about???
If 1940 Ford, the shaft is most likely damaged, it is pressed into the housing. I believe that each pedal has two thin wall bushings. DO NOT loose the thick washers or the clips that hold the pedals on the shaft!

Done a few of these, never had a problem pressing the shaft out of the bracket; just cut the one end off close to flush and square the cut and press it out. Probably could relieve
the shaft with a drill and pound it out, if you didn't have access to a press.

Since the thin bushing are worn thru most of the time, I set the new bushings with JB weld as long as the pedal bore is not worn excessively. The clutch pedal is usually in the worst condition, if it is worn too bad, I would look for another, probably cheaper to buy another better clutch pedal or pedal set, than to pay a machinist to bore and fit an oversize bushing.
