Forum Software Change and more
Another forum I frequented for 20 years uses vBulletin software as does Ford Barn.
The other forum unfortunately is changing software tonight as vBulletin software is no longer supported. The vBulletin software is my overwhelling favorite, never-the-less the writing is on the wall. I expect the FordBarn owners to make the same move sooner than later. Doesn't anything stay the same. I've only a few years left, can't I go out without having to learn new and toss the old. I still have Beta tapes of the family, and thousands of slides. My rotaty telephone worked great as the lenses for my Nikon F. The 8" floppys nor 5" floppys nor disc nor CDs won't play their sortware anymore. Funnily my disc's are coming back into vogue while my 8 tracks are junk. My favorite ham frequencies are gone ... and on but at least I've got my old Mercury which works without computers. How long is gasoline going to be available? |

Re: Forum Software Change and more
We have had the best of everything in our day.
As kids, in and out the house roam where ever. Be back at mealtime. Neighbors were watching, not as snoops but the TV hadn't captured everyone. Away at work moms were the exception. Never heard tell of 'daycare' In rural settings ( my experience included both farm and field, then later an urban neighborhood) we understood the responsibility of looking out for one another's safety. Although we were always seeking something to wow at, it was just derring-do and fun. Work came early to me, grade 8. By grade 10 two jobs were mine one full time the second part time. It was all about paying the rent and buying the groceries But the big picture of our civilization tells me that to look back a hundred years from our start ( mid 1800's) and all the centuries before, we find that life was a lot less pleasure and lot more toil. The only thing constant is CHANGE. Please excuse me for my rant, I have discomfort about the way things are working out. I can never forget that we had it great. Most amazing to me in my life as a young adult, was be in the right place at the right time and you could own a car for free, or never more than a hundred bucks for a cream-puff. What a time we've had. No amount of words could get the young'uns to to grasp the security, and ease (ya ya I know plenty about hard-knocks and let-downs) of our ( old farts) lives. Sorry to go on so, but this is real.

Re: Forum Software Change and more
There was a big uproar when the HAMB introduced a new format several years ago. I didn't like it myself at first. BUT, once you get accustom to it, it has a lot of advantages! Things change, that is just the way it is.

Re: Forum Software Change and more
I think we are living in a great period in time. In my lifetime, we've gone from propeller driven aircraft in WWII to a man landing on the moon to affordable computers and "Dick Tracey" type cell phones. Probably the most changes ever seen in one lifetime in history. Bad things? Of course, but that's been true throughout history.
Enjoy the time you have left on Earth and the relatively easy period in history we have. |

Re: Forum Software Change and more
Don't ya just love new members? OK "newbies", here's official (as it can be from me) notice. If you want to get involved in the forum, just jump right in and ask a question or even just post a picture of your project. Don't just dip your toe in and drag up an old thread that has no current relevance. The guys on here are real helpful and even forgiving. We don't bite, honest!

Re: Forum Software Change and more
This software is archaic. Just think how many more photos we would have if it was easier to load photos or the option just to like someone’s post? Life is change. New software is usually much better. Few people like change and it can be very difficult for some folks. once the software is unsupported, the writing is on the wall.

Re: Forum Software Change and more
My only complaint with the current software is the hard time posting and downsizing photos.

Re: Forum Software Change and more
If this is what you are using on the H.A.M.B., I'm all for it. I'll bet at least half of the "real" posters here are also on the H.A.M.B., so there should be minimal problems. The improvements will be worth it. These interminable "I can't post pictures" threads are getting a little old.

THIS -- AIN'T -- HARD -- TO -- DO ! I'm dumber than a bucket-full of runny snot. Computers are STILL way over my head, but I sat down here a long time ago, piddled-around a little bit, made a mistake or three at first, and figured it out! NOBODY helped me, either. It ain't hard! It MAY be easier someplace else. BUT IT AIN'T HARD!! DD . |

I've never seen the red one before ....tagged it straight off the internet. Below is the only picture I have handy at the moment of our stock, original '37 that just sold and left here four days ago. DD |
