Engine backfires and does not run smooth
I have my 40 Pickup running now. Has a rebuilt 59-A (by me). It does not run smooth and backfires occasionaly. I suspect I have two cylinder plug wires crossed? It also bucks now and then when I try to drive it? Any suggestions? Thanks, Jack in San Diego

Re: Engine backfires and does not run smooth
To checjk the firing order I have to take the distributor off, take the cap off and pull it all apart. I was looking for an easier way. haha (no easy way I guess)

Re: Engine backfires and does not run smooth
Sounds to me like intermittent ignition. Check the back of the key switch. Is it hot? That happened on my '40 and the connection at the switch was loose. A loose connection at the switch will generate a lot of heat at the switch. It should not be hot.

Sounds like dirt in the carb or loose manifold loose/faulty condenser
