Re: Clutch Chatter
No, it hits the outside of the pressure plate. Got one coming Saturday so Sunday plan on putting it in. Sure hope this fixes it.

Re: Clutch Chatter
Well I want to thank 38 Coupe. I put the NOS remabufactured clutch in today and I have zero clutch chatter. It is perfect. Thank you! Now I want to see what C&G is going to do about the clutch they sold me.

Re: Clutch Chatter
Good to hear you finally got the problem solved.
Don't be too hard on C&G, I have purchased parts from them many times and expect I will purchase parts from them again in the future. Give them a call and explain the situation. |

They want me to pay to return the clutch. Keep in mind I paid to have it shipped to me. Then when they get it the manufacturer will look at it and depending on what the manufacturer says I may or may not get credit. Why would I return it? They said that since I didn't have the pressure plate and flywheel balanced together the chatter may not be the clutch. I was advised to not do that because the only way to balance the two is to subtract mater from the flywheel. Then I have a problem for the next pressure plate. There must be some fine print on the website that states you must have the flywheel and pressure plate to be balanced together for the warranty to be good. Never heard of that. They also said we don't know how you drove the car. To me, that is the biggest insult they could give. I have driven this car for 54 years, it's my baby. This company caused me a lot of extra work. If the clutch would have been good I would not have had to do it again. I was without a car several weeks because of the bad clutch. No skin off their back. Now I know what kind of company they are. |

Re: Clutch Chatter
Very disappointing to hear. It's not uncommon these days for good companies to go bad. New management, financial problems, or just the general malaise these days.
I hope it is not the case with these folks. |

Re: Clutch Chatter
I did first provide the advice that you eventually used to solve the problem as post #2 on this thread...
I don't think C&G is solely responsible for all your difficulties. I get it, I've been there. It is incredibly frustrating to do a bunch of work on your car and not have it drive any better afterwards. I expect C&G sell the same disk that a bunch of vendors sell. I have had good experiences purchasing from them, and I got to see the owners of the company last year when they drove from California to Texas to attend the 50th Texas Tour. I just don't buy new clutch disks from anyone for a flathead era Ford anymore. |

Re: Clutch Chatter
I have purchased from C&G many times in the past and have never had a problem. If the clutch C&G sent me worked like it should have, I would not have done all the extra things like new motor mounts, shaving the flywheel, new transmission mounts and swapping the rear end. My thought process was that I received a good clutch from C&G and that the clutch was not the problem. After writing to C&G I was advised that I needed to balance the flywheel and pressure plate as a unit. I had never heard of this. I was advised not to do since balancing it would require removing material from the flywheel. Once removed the next pressure plate would require even more removal of material. I did not do this.
Listening to The Ford Barn and a friend of mine I was advised to get a NOS Remanufactured clutch. When I removed the C&G clutch and replaced it with the NOS Remanufactured clutch the problem was fixed. Nothing else was changed. This tells me that clearly the C&G clutch was the problem. I wrote to C&G asking for return shipping to return the defective clutch. I was advised by C&G that they will not send me a prepaid label to return the clutch. Keep in mind I paid for a defective clutch and shipping sent to me and did not ask for a refund of that shipping charge. I was advised that I could return the clutch at my expense, in the original box, copy of the order and I would be given a credit, not a refund since the order was past 60 days, only after the clutch was sent back to the manufacturer and they determined that the clutch was defective. C&G said that since I did not have the flywheel and pressure plate balanced per their instructions, they feel that is the problem and not the clutch. They also stated that they did not know how I drove the car and could have abused the clutch. This is a 6 cylinder car, not a race car. I don’t know if I will return it or not because it looks like they have already made up their mind that they are not going to refund anything to me. You never know who you are dealing with till you have a problem. I now know who I’m dealing with now and cannot recommend C&G to anyone. What they are doing is wrong. I shared this story today with 15 AACA car members at breakfast and they could not believe it. Like me, they thought C&G was a reputable company. I know they will think twice before ordering from C&G. I have two more car clubs to share this with. The car is running perfect with the new clutch. I’m so happy and I want to thank everyone on here for helping me get my car running again like it should. |
