Red face manifold leak

Just thought I would pass this on, had an exhaust leak in the area of the number four exhaust port. Removed the intake and exhaust and found them to be true and level. Noticed valve cover gasket protruding about a quarter of an inch above the valve cover. Apparently this caused the manifold and gasket not to seat properly against the head. The new gasket practically touches the valve cover itself, therefore the protruding valve cover gasket held the manifold slightly away from the head. At 1800 miles the cork apparently burned away and a leak developed. Cut the exposed cork gasket on the valve cover and installed new manifold gasket and all is well.
Sometimes the fix is so simple it escapes us.
