Tips to remove spyder hubcaps?
Removing & reinstalling spyder hubcaps - Aside from common sense (pry a little, work around the circumference and don't scratch) are there any tips for this job? I think these are '36 hubcaps on '37 wheels? Corrections are welcome.
Thank you, David 1937 V8, four door convertible |

From the backside with a stick is how I used to do it..Make sure you have someone catch it or put a thick towel down.

Make a simple slide hammer with a hooked end. Full control from the front, no prying, no need for access from behind the wheel.

This is the way I do it as well. If by myself, I lay a furniture blanket down for them to land on…and yes those are ‘36 Spyders. They would still be correct for your car if it is an early production vehicle.

Re: Tips to remove spyder hubcaps?
I have one spyder that seems tight when I install it but has flown off on two successive rides. I heard something about putting weatherstripping behind it…..how??

Re: Tips to remove spyder hubcaps?
You may want to check to see if the part of the hubcap that covers the spoke is hitting a spoke. Having no clearance on that part of these hubcaps was a problem if you happen to have Bill Hirsch reproductions. Just a thought.

Re: Tips to remove spyder hubcaps?
Its the clips on the wheel that secure the hubcap.Check those and replace as necessary.

Re: Tips to remove spyder hubcaps?
Here's a little rig I buggered together. No moving parts, the end that contacts the wheel rim is a piece of wood dowel, the hooked end was heated and hammered to fit the concave edge of the cap. A little tug and off it comes. Easy-Peasycap puller.jpg
