Default Snap On Dwell Meter

I have a 1937 59A engine in my 35 pickup. Crab Distributor and a new 6V coil with internal resistor of 1.5. All stock 6 Volt positive ground system.

I have this Snap On Dwell/Tach meter which I'd like to check my Dwell reading with.

Haven't had any luck getting any reading except RPM or killing the engine.

Any advice if this meter will give me a reading and how you would make the connections to the engine.

Thanks

You would need a 12 volt, negative ground system.

you may want to use a 12 volt battery to power unit separate from car.

Jakno, you keep saying that you have a 1937 59A engine in your 1935 pickup! Your engine is actually a 59 series, having 59AB heads, was introduced in 1945, and used until 1948. While you may have some bolt-on components from 1937, the engine block itself is a 59 Series. Come on guy, get with the program!

Jak,
Did you try the meter on another vehicle ? Perhaps the dwell function is kaput.
I have one of those meters and it works good on all functions on 6 volts pos ground.
I attach the red clip to the neg terminal on the coil and the black one to the pos side.
The meter was made for 12v according to the instruction sheet.
