Default How dumb is dumb

I was attaching my new cutoff switch to my new rebuilt generator and I tightened the nut on the generator post too tight and snapped it off right even with the top of the generator. Is there a way to get the post out of the generator and then replace it.

Thanks, Marshall

Yes, but you will have to disassemble the generator..

you will need to remove and disassemble the generator to gain access to the nut that securs it in place. a new post replacement kit is available from the vendors. a solder iron will also be required.

I wouldn't call that "dumb"... certainly regrettable, but I think many of us have done this.

It takes a big old iron to solder those. I'd take it to an auto electric shop for soldering after you get it apart.

BTW, I once ordered a replacement terminal post from a reputable vendor, but it was not a proper copper one- it was steel with the common yellowish-colored zinc/chromate plating. So, if you order something, try to make sure it is the authentic type.

You can probably buy a 100-watt soldering iron for less than you would have to pay a shop to solder it. Look for places that sell stained glass supplies.

there are hundreds of over educated college kids that go to school for over a year and spend thousands of dollars to learn what you learned in a few seconds, and it only cost an hour or so and a few bucks, not dumb, a cheap learning experience, no subtitude fo experience, just one more of lifes lessons about working on these old cars, lol
