Not so much a question but advice on generator.
Would anyone have a good recommendation for going over my Model A generator? I know the armature is bad because the tapered front end is toast because owner before me ran with pulley loose. So I have a brand new armature and pulley but a little challenged on the front bracket /bearing retainer.I guess you have to drill out the old rivets just to get to the bearing? Nothing I have found in Les Andrews book touches on the front bearing retainer.I got the snap rings out.I see that Brattons sells a fake rivet but Snyders doesn't. Any suggestions on who would be a good choice to send to where I have the parts or most of them to fix? Thank You

Re: Not so much a question but advice on generator.
I don't think you will save much by removing the plate if you are going to send out for rebuild, unless you have a way to pull/install the bearing. They are or should be a press fit. Removing the plate to replace the bearing would be part of the rebuild anyway. Along with that, at this point the field windings are old and tired unless that have been replaced in recent history. They would require special tools to install and remove. Without knowing where you are located, any suggestions would maybe require shipping. If you want to try, there is lots of info, just google "Ford model A generator rebuild" Another option is look on Ebay for rebuilt units. They might be gotten with no core return. (check the seller feedback)
If you are installing the alternator, I would suggest using a clog type belt. The stock belt does not like the smaller diameter pulley used on them.

Re: Not so much a question but advice on generator.
Thank you for responding.I have emailed Tom Wesenburg to see if he would rebuild.I may be wrong but I thought I read in my searches he does this or can do this.I have a new armature but you are correct field coils should be looked at. I thought about a PowerGen I do have a 6 volt Ed Whitney alternator in a generator case on my '37 Ford. In my search I have seen some issues of fit with alternators so I was just going to go with what I have. Anybody have any suggestions on Power Gen and where to purchase?
