Default 12 volt distributor hook-up question

I am putting a new distributor in my car and i have it 12v neg ground the dist has the modern lower plate and new upper plate with points and condenser in it, i am asking if my wiring is correct. Battery pos to ign switch ign switch to + side of 12 v coil - side of coil to points.

With any points system, 6 volts, 12 volts, positive ground, negative ground, if the coil is marked with a +/-, then follow the + side wiring through what ever might be in the path back to the + terminal of the battery and you will be correct.

If it is an internally resisted coil, you're done.

If not, you'll need a ballast resistor in line with the hot lead to the coil. Most 12V points systems will apply a full 12V to the coil in this situation only when the starter is turning.
