Default cross shaft bshings

hello-i bought some nylon bushings for the rt and left ends of the cross shaft. should there be some slop between the in. diam of bushing and out diam. of shaft. ? shaft does not seem to be worn. what is the minimum o.d. of shaft at which the shaft must be replaced? thanks

I was unaware that anyone manufactured those in Nylon. That does not seem like it would be substantial enough to keep from flexing during firm braking. As for a way to tell if your shaft area is worn, look at the shaft size either next to, --or under the arm as this was the original size.

We have made them for 30 years out of UHMW, and they work very good, as long as the shaft is not worn too much.

You can also use the split bushings. They work well on a shaft that has some wear. Use a liberal amount of grease when installing. They will compress within the clamp for a good fit.

Ditto Dick M. Split the bushings = cut them in half with a hacksaw. No precision is necessary as long as you keep the matching cut halves together. Put some synthetic grease on the shaft.
