Unfortunately we have not heard back from the original poster. We don't know how bad the overheating was. I think Brent has a good suggestion if the engine was over heated so that the paint burned. The original poster said "badly overheated" but we don't know how bad that was or if the engine seized. No pictures were posted. The prudent thing to do is to tear the engine down, as Brent suggested. If the engine just boiled over then it MAY not be damaged to the point of needing a tear down. How many engines have boiled over, allowed to cool, and then driven home?

Had a 70’s Chrysler 383 that overheated. They tried for several days to start it. I squirted oil into the cylinders and it started like nothing ever happened. There were no problems. I would have to believe Model “A”’ overheating was common problem as they got older and these same cars are still running.

I severely overheated my engine, burnt paint, smell, etc. Would not start, was the condenser. However, pulled the head and pan and bearing caps to look around, no apparent damage, but did pick up piston slap. Will change pistons sometime this winter, look some more. Am driving it a little bit, no apparent problems.
