Default valve seat cutter

Does this look like equipment for Ford v8's?

Picture does not show everything but it could probably grind seats in a flathead.

Looks like a Sioux setup for installing valve seats.
Its for cutting the pocket you drive the valve seat into.
Could be another brand but some of the cutters are atleast Sioux style.

Thats a slow moving unit if i´m right and not suitable for grinding hard seats.
But a nice setup for installing seats they usually don´t have the power unit just a ratchet.

I don't see any pilots . They go down in place of the valve stem to guide the cutters , grinders . Either stone or other .

I think I'd leave installing seats to a machinist. OK, I'll pass on this one.

The eBay listing says "two guides". I would have to think those are actually the pilots. If not, please enlighten me.

They may be pilots but it is still a paperweight as they won't work on a flathead.
A Flathead needs a special size pilot(1 1/32") In fact it doesn't say what size they are at all.
That system is under 40.00 you won't get much that will help with a flathead.
For someone to buy that with the thought of doing up a flathead is in for a steep learning curve if is his first attempt.Step up and buy a neway system. The cost of a neway start up system isn't cheap. That is my 2¢.

Yes, the guides are pilots. 5/16 and 11/32. 11/32 is very close to the valve stem diameter, I measure .341 on my (used) valves. I have a lathe and could modify if needed. Add says won't work on "modern" hardened seats. My engine has seats on all valves, will these cutters work on them?

It's been a while but I have faced valves, knurled guides, added stem seals, ground seats, etc, but had access to the correct tooling. I've actually already lapped these valves and things look pretty good although a couple of seats near the center exhaust ports could definitely use some touching up. I have a Model A buddy that has a Black and Decker valve seat grinder, he's never used it before and doesn't know how complete it is.

Only "blade" cutters that work good on hardseats are the neways and they have special inserts for it.
Find an old stone setup, the old black & decker setups had the plathead pilots in the kits.
Does a job as nice as any modern machine just takes a bit more time.

There's a carbide cutter just like that that works great . The pilots are ' made of steel and center cut on each end to be turned to size . So you need to find a guy with a lathe or open up a sacrificial guide to one of the pilot size you get . Just use the guide as part of the tool .
A bit more work but ,,,

I just cut some harden seats on a 35 21 stud , make that a 36 . I have an old souix and used the pink stones that are marked for stellite.
I bought the eBay kit cause I could not find the Sioux, Dah , as soon as the new kit came I went to cut some valve on the valve grinder and stepped on the darn box I've been looking for . It was red and I would have sworn it was dark blue .

That black and decker is a good tool . Check the backing on the stones and it'll give size , angle and what it's good for cutting .
If he doesn't have the dresser , I do . If you need them dressed I'll do it for you .
Just $ shipping .

Can´t just swap between Black & decker and Sioux...different stone thread size and different size of the pilots.

B & D are .375 pilot size so is blue point snap-on and neway...and some i´ve probably forgot.
Sioux are .385 pilot size
And the stone thread is smaller on B & D.

I know he doesn't have the dresser, but I thought I'd buy a new set of stones for him for the use of the tool. Thanks for the offer, once I get my hands on it I'll know what it will take to make it usable.

I have both setups , the black and decker is a bit heavier , so the Sioux gets the workout .
Offer is still good .
