1931 Standard Roadster top
Someone called me wanting a 1931 Standard Roadster top, or the irons and patterns for the wood. I am not familiar with this top and don’t know what to tell him or who to refer him to. Right now, he doesn't have a top or any of the parts and nothing to go by. He lives in southwest Missouri and reads FordBarn but does not post here. If you have any ideas of where he can find a top for his car, or maybe you are close enough to him that you can help him, please post a follow up message here. Or send me and email and I will give you his name and phone number. [email protected]

Re: 1931 Standard Roadster top
Call Bert's in Denver and talk with Steve. They have all the parts except the fabric. Tell him to stop at his bank first.

Re: 1931 Standard Roadster top
Not too long ago Eric Wenninger, Model A Medic had a full 30, 31 Standard top. I found one somewhat locally but I believe he could ship via Fastenal.

Re: 1931 Standard Roadster top
I don't think Fastenall is doing LTL shipping like they used to. You have to have an account with them now days just to purchase anything.

Re: 1931 Standard Roadster top
Back to the subject....
Long time ago the tubular bows (std) were reproduced. I think ?? Ezra Machine made them. Anybody know what happened to them? No search turns them up. Any successor to them? The irons made from flat bar were repod by Girtz/superior but not sure they’re still around. Website not active. |

Re: 1931 Standard Roadster top
Well just answer my own question...
Ezra (Paul Ezra) became Metal Fab in early 90”s. Their website says they still make a line of car parts ( looks like way outgrown that). They reference to dealers (speedway, Eckler, etc) but do not state what they supply. There is a website but little reference to products, Ezra’s irons were quite useable “back when” |

Re: 1931 Standard Roadster top
About a year or two ago Metal Fab (Ezra) did a restructuring of their business. At that time it was found that car parts represented a large percentage of work but not an equal percentage of profits. At that time it was decided to focus on the more profitable aspects of their business, and they dropped a bunch of dealers and parts. I believe that one of the lines of parts that were disc were the open car top irons, as sales on them have taken a significant decrease in the last 5-10 years. When they did the restructuring they had only a few top irons left and i believe that once those were sold they were gone.

Re: 1931 Standard Roadster top
This currently doesn’t affect me but....
What are going to be the options for those doing standard roadsters and standard phaeton? Most if those top irons need help or replacing or missing Years ago many Roadsters were converted to deluxe. Are all the standards irons scrapped, hanging in attics, under the house or all of the above? Rhetorical question |

Another FWIW, Karl Wescott and I were chatting a few months ago and his new reproduction DeLuxe top irons were about ready to be released. He may be a good candidate for manufacturing the Std. 40B irons in the future. |

Re: 1931 Standard Roadster top
Actually a standard roadster is more “friendly”
More room inside. Not as sporty Besides there are more deluxe roadster Today than ford ever made......likely more roadsters, period |

Just as an update, Fred (the guy Don referenced from Missouri) called me again today to say he actually found a set of top irons and is going to pick them this weekend.

Re: 1931 Standard Roadster top
Most everybody lists them. I understand Oak Bows still makes them albeit under new ownership
Did you look at your fav vendor’s website? |
