I seem to be in a model A desert. Not much around here. Went to a pretty good swap meet last fall a couple hours away, one locally held had zero model A stuff. Most things cancelled for the covid.

There are a bunch of outlets where folks post stuff up,Offer up,Marketplace,Partswapper..Cars for sale ads is where I found some real gold,a fella selling his car sometimes has a stash of parts that 'go with it' I call to buy the parts only and have done well, the seller was going to give them with the car,he's glad to get something for them..

Most librarians I know don't read a lot. For them the Dewey Decimal System is where it's at I guess.

Truly, I have the same problem. 100 percent of the first Model A, 60 percent of the second, 40 percent of the third - and a whole bunch of other parts I'm gonna get to someday.

And a wife who says "When you die, it's all going to scrap!"

Its called "Transgenerational Passage of Wealth." But what if the next generation doesn't know value?

Ford made quick reference gear charts based on the year of the car,it would make life easy..if i knew what car they came out of but when they come in boxes and bucket you have to identify each part them go back to the actual gear charts to see what works together. "Nancy Drew in the Case of the Missing Gear"

Been working with the 3 year old grandson about the car,the older ones would fight over who is taking the crap to the scrap yard.

Oh,and some engineer at Ford should be shot for deciding on the snap ring style, instead of the standard 'points on the outside of the gap' they appear to be cut...point on outside on one side of the ring, inside on the other..cant use ring pliers, you have to use a pick..about fifteen minutes in you want a piece of that engineer..

Yeah...so? ... actually my plan is to put a few decent transmissions back into circulation, keep one or two for myself. They spent the last fifty years or so in a barn, set up with a clings kit and closed driveshaft they drop right into a model A..modern synchronized shifting but still the old ford smell..and a swan neck shift lever..

Is that one of the Canadian aluminum heads in first photo? What do you think the transmissions with the chain sprockets were used for?

Nope, thats a core 59AB head I used for a template to make a block off plate to pressure test with.

The cat that had the transmissions ran a drilling service, old International crawler tractors with a pipe rack and a king swivel, they would use the transmission to run a hydraulic pump. When they found out the trannys worked they went to Petaluma and bought a bunch of parts and trannys from the local transmission shop..they closed the drilling business years ago, finally sold the stash..

Just an old mechanic who enjoys working on old fords..to me hoarding means buying and holding..although I can finance my car out of pocket its sweeter If I can do something like this, build one for me,sell some parts or complete transmissions.keeps me off the streets..
