Default Spraying Tools

The RG&JS says Model A tools were finished in black lacquer or black japan baking enamel (whatever that is).

Q1: Is Home Depot black lacquer an authentic finish suitable for judging, or is there some special stuff I should get?
Q2: Do I need to prime first, or just paint immediately after sandblasting?

Thanks in advanced! This board is the greatest!

Rustoleum lacquer appears to hold up well -- it is quick & dries fast; however if tools are used often for actual mechanic work, probably no paint or lacquer will last very long, especially when rattling in a tool box or tool bag.

Don't prime. Just about any black spray can should be close, but you don't want the paint too thick on the tool, nor too shiney, like a fender. I've used a can of black spray enamel and it looks good.
