Default Source for origional 53' Mercury trim clips

Who would be a good source for the original rear window trim clips, on a 1953 Mercury Convertible. I would guess the same clips would have been use on all other models to include Ford.

Don't know of any source for original clips.
First thought is how are you planning to install them if you find any?
If the clip holes are accessible from inside of the trunk then your best bet would be to obtain threaded 'T' bolts, fit them to the molding as required and secure from inside with nuts.
This is a tool that I have had since the 50's, made to install Ford style molding clips.

Restoration Specialties, Pa. 814-467-9842, they have a catalog of 1,000s of pictures of clips and weatherstripping, they had all the clips for my 53 ford conv, and they restored my vent windows with new rubber and window channel

The clips are a press fit, in the hole, on the side of the body. Then the trim piece slides over them.MAC's might have them I need to call Monday to get measurements.

The clips when new are not a press fit in the hole.
The tool is used to expand the attaching dome to secure it after it is put in place.

Or, what I have seen done in the past, one or two #4 or#6 sheet metal screws.

The only issue, is that the screws would go directly into the top material behind the body. The reason I am replacing the old ones, is that they were incorrect and I am having a new Stayfast top put on tomorrow.

Or drill and tap for #6-32 holes and use machine screws that will not protrude into that area.

Or use 'pop' rivets.

A piece of sheet metal between the the metal seam and cloth top can be used for protection when drilling or tapping.
