Default block stamping ID

H S B, I am assuming this might be from a rebuild at some point in its life but this block also appears to be a stock bore with tin sleeves. 21 stud 37 or early '38. Does anyone have any info on these markings?

Thank you- Douglas

.

There's that quintessential Ford "I", taking the place of a "1" (one). DD

It's all re-builder gibberish only decoded by re-builders and builders. I thought is was for the iphone5 upgrade.

1 to I stamping was in February 1931. Well in most states.

But in no states was a H and S used or based on normal Ford stamps in 37-38. B yes. I could be really wrong, but I'd guess that was aftermarket stamping. Could have been close to production and ordered custom built. The stamps were not guarded and most all early ford dealers had them.

Mike and Jack are very knowledgeable, so I defer.

Could still be rebuilt, the steel sleeves were replaceable.

What is a bonderized piston? I googled bonderized, all I got was bonderized steel material for roofing, guttering, etc.

Likely scenario as this engine has flat top pistons and from what the barn has told me '37 should have domed pistons. A lot can happen in 80+ years.

Leon, It is my understanding bonderizing is a form of a phosphating process or parkerizing.
