Default "I" in vin number suppose to be 1

Has anyone else had a problem trying to have the dmv understand that the "I" is a number 1. Even the inspection people didn't understand either. Also is it just rumor that there are other places on the frame where there are additional vin stamping. I'm in the process to get my Ohio title for my wife's 41 pick up.

On my 32 v8 chassis, the number starts out 18-xxxxxxx. But its actually stamped I8-xxxxxx. In kansas, because of its age no visual inspection was needed by the hipo. Knowing it was meant to be a "1" , thats how I presented the vin when applying for a title.

1932 V8 serial numbers didn't go up to seven digits.
They started at *18-1* and ended with *18-203126*,

...So where is your 1?

Go to the V8 Club web site. I posted scans from the K R Wilson catalog showing the old and new numbers, I also posted a scan from Ford Service Bulletins in 1936. Print out the scans and take it to the Ohio Highway Patrol station with your existing title, They will fill out a form for the BMV for you. I personally don't see the problem if the title is 1 or I. You may want to take a photo of the vehicle serial number as stamped on the frame to the patrol . You mentioned 41 PU and the frame number starts off with BB I would not think that is a pick up serial number sounds like larger truck like 3/4 ton.
