Robert Paul “Mr Shock” goes west

I just received a call from Mr Paul’s brother informing me of the sad news that Robert Paul has passed.

Several years ago I sent a large carton of shocks to be rebuilt and the box along with my info was in his shop. These were several randomly acquired and in unknown condition - I was hoping to get a good set out of them - but I had since purchased the newly manufactured shocks and had no need of them. I told the brother to not go to the expense to return them. I had sent them right after Robert’s shop had been burgled, which was 3 or 4 years ago IIRC. The brother doesn’t want to get dozens of calls looking for shocks, but I assume he’s going through the records and will contact anyone who had left work there.

Another good man gone. RIP, Mr Paul.

Robert was one big asset to the Model A hobby. he will be dearly missed. he rebuilt my Victoria shocks 30 years ago and they are still going strong. RIP

That is indeed unfortunate for the hobby, but a greater loss to his family and close friends. Sail on, Mr. Paul.

Robert Paul rebuilt 3 sets of shocks for my vehicles. He even swapped my cores for some of his to have the correct style for the year of my car. I agree he was a real asset to the model A community. Sorry to here he is gone.

Robert rebuilt two sets for me. One set many years ago with no problems to this day. The second set I have yet to use. A true loss for his family and the Model-A community. Rest In Peace Robert!

I would like to extend my deepest sympathy to Robert's family on his passing. He had done a set of shocks for my car also and a fine job it is. What really made him special was the man he was taking the time to listen to me when I had them done.

Wow I just put a set of shocks on my 29 Roadster this past Monday that he rebuilt for me last year. Got them back in October. What a wonderful gentleman and friend. He will be sorely missed. My condolences to his family. Sincerely, Jim Moody

Robert did two sets for me. One set for a Nov. 1928 car, and an early set with numbered swing arms. All excellent and correct. Very sad to learn of Robert's passing. Condolences to Robert's family. He will be missed by all. Mike Peters

Sounds like it runs in the family.

With all the troubles this gentleman has on his plate, he still finds the time, will and honesty to call these people up when he could have easily said screw it.

What a wonderful man and the quality of his work and cost just could not be found with anyone else. I have no idea how many matching sets of shocks he did for me over the years. The sets on my 3 "A's" are just as good today as they were when first installed.

May Robert R.I.P. and condolences to his family.

I sent him my shocks and he called me a year later aplogizing that they had gotten misplaced and he had just found a box with my name on it, I told him he had told me to be patient so I was just waiting per his instructions. We both had a laugh and he did my shocks the next week. A real nice guy to deal with.
