An interesting concept
I had an interesting thought just now. It goes against purist sensibilities, but I'm purely curious in an academic capacity.
What would be involved in marrying an original ford-o-matic 3spd automatic transmission to the model A motor? It wouldn't be the same driving experience, but its an interesting thought to have an auto model A for people who can't, or are no longer able to, drive the clutch. I just wonder if the automatics bell would marry straight up to the A's flywheel housing.

Re: An interesting concept
Well thats pretty cool. I wonder how it feels to drive that, and if you get a better top speed?

Re: An interesting concept
I would say less top speed because of converter slippage and trans power to run pump

Re: An interesting concept
...but more top speed if you select one of the OD tranys like the 700R4 or 2004R.

Re: An interesting concept
Try this thread and read post #21. The Chrysler 904 seems like a good choice.

I do have a C-4 and a Gear Vender OD/UD behind the Y-Block in my '55 Ford Ranchwagon. Using the gear splitter option it gives me a 6 speed. Last edited by Y-Blockhead; 09-15-2016 at 04:52 PM. Reason: Grammer |
