Zenith 2 - pitted seat of the gas adjusting needle
I'm looking for the best way to smoothen the pitted seat (machined into the casting) of the gas adjusting needle in my Zenith 2 carburetor. Thank you in advance.

A old style Carburetor repairer should have the seat reface equipment that you need

A small drill bit running backwards with valve grinding compound on the tip should give a nice seat.

Re: Zenith 2 - pitted seat of the gas adjusting needle
I don't see a need to do anything about a cast GAV seat. Normally the GAV valve is cracked open a quarter to a half turn on most Zeniths.
You could also drill and tap a cast valve seat and install the brass valve seat used in the early Zeniths. I had a friend develop the tooling to do that. It comprised of a drill guide to drill the cast seat out, a tool to grind a flat seat, and a tap to install the threads. For a while I was using this procedure to install the brass seat on Zeniths I was restoring until it dawned on me there was not a need for it. Tom Endy |
