Trading '67 442 for '49 F1
I'm sure this is a prejudice crowd but I'll ask for opinions any way. Close to a deal trading my '67 442 for a pretty nice '49 F1. Probably the 442 plus $3k. 442 #'s match, mechanically right ( runs well ), good body and paint, needs interior redo. Pic's of both attached. thoughts on whether it's Fair deal?

Although I'd personally rather have the F1, in this world of "Muscle Car Mania" it doesn't sound like a good deal at all, especially if you have give some to boot. The relative condition of each could make a big difference. It's hard to tell from the pictures you've supplied.

tubman got it right. Install an OEM interior in your 442 and
it's value will soar in today's muscle car market. Don't do the trade. |

Re: Trading '67 442 for '49 F1
Ok i'll be the goat... There are shit load of red F-1s ,lol but i think i would keep the 442. Not many of them around and a true muscle car.I would think the 442 is worth more. But i'm a Flathead guy not a GM man. I have been watching the F-1 on Ebay to see how high the auction goes.JMO Ken

Re: Trading '67 442 for '49 F1
Anthony,
Your comfort with the $$$$ is up to you. Be sure you know what you are buying. The two piece front fenders are usually rotten at the 60 degree angle. You will notice a support plate on the inside of the fender in this area. Those plates hold dirt, sand and salt ladened water and snow. The running board front and rear fender joining areas are also a catch all for bad stuff. Creative body work can mask these areas and I can tell you nobody wants to pay for a proper all steel repair. Fiberglass repair panels are available but resale in most cases is dragged way down. OMHO, Charlie ny |

Re: Trading '67 442 for '49 F1
If you go thru with the deal I'd bet you'll be disappointed. There are just a few "curious" things about the truck that I'd want to look at a lot closer. Like why is the roof flat black? The front fender line looks strange. The rest would require getting down under it with a strong light.
By the very nature of Ford's assembly procedure, these trucks are not and cannot be "numbers matching" so if that is important to you on your 442 ...... In addition to the above, these trucks are still a 'dime a dozen' and cheap to come by. They just don't command the same market the muscle cars do. Only my dos pesos of course .....fwiw |

Re: Trading '67 442 for '49 F1
Without a good side shot of those fenders it's hard to tell if they are F-1 fenders or the big truck fenders. The opening looks big to me. I too am suspicious of the black roof. Cleanup the interior of the 442 and sell it for as much as you can get. You'll be able to buy a nicer F-1 than this one and probably have a fair amount of money left over.

It's hard to tell but those fenders look suspiciously F3 ish with a large wheel opening.
Don't know what to think of the seam on the front but that truck isn't what it seems. |

What part of NO don't you understand? IMHO even a straight across trade would be a bad deal for you.

You are getting some very good advice from experienced Ford guys. I believe that you expected them to be in favor of the trade. I have looked at cars from this dealer and many of them show poor workmanship. I would also say keep what you have and sell it yourself. Then go looking for a nice pickup. If you don't get in a hurry you can do much better.

Re: Trading '67 442 for '49 F1
I remember looking at that truck on ebay and thinking that someone had polished a turd really well. I went back and found it again and still think that. If you look closely at the pictures, you will see that the exterior is very shiney and smooth, but the little details everywhere else don't match up. There is visible rust and bubbled paint around the instrument panel inside the cab; the engine comparment looks like it has been sprayed over dirt, rust, etc. with a quick coat of black; the views of the engine show a lot of oil leakage at the rear mains; what the hell is that chunk of 2x4 doing there?; etc. etc. etc.
RUN, don't walk, from this deal!! I can only imagine how bad it really is under all of that polish. Just another $.02. John |

Re: Trading '67 442 for '49 F1
Don't do it! 442's are not that plentiful ( we had 3 in high school in my class of 72 ) anymore. It's worth far more than the F-1 will be.

Re: Trading '67 442 for '49 F1
Of all 442's, 67 is my favorite. Your 67 looks to be a good looking example too.
Glad to read you poo poo'd the deal.
