Why would you want a hotter spark inside the distributor?

Not talking about Model As guys.

Was being paid to drag race back then. Those engines went 8k.

I didn't want a hotter spark in the distributor, I wanted all the spark for the sparklers[ which didn't have ground wires most of the time]
