Door latch remote spring replacement. How?
Hello learned FordBarn friends.
On my 32 the inside door release remotes both have the springs missing. Assuming I can source some replacement springs, what is the recommended method to get them in place? Can they be coaxed into place as is, or does the remote need dismantling? This would involve bending the tabs and I expect it could be a recipe for disaster... Any advice offered is most welcome. Heat and bend the tabs to insert the new spring.

And if the tab breaks off, a block can be tacked to mount plate to simulate.

Once again, spot on advice from Terry. Heat is an absolute necessity for bending away and back again.

Re: Door latch remote spring replacement. How?
I just repaired several of these from a 40s Dodge truck. Same exact design. No special tolls and these had the tangs already broken off by me and others trying to get the cover plate off. 1 pic shoes a standoff installed with a 4-40 screw. The other 2 show a crude replacement tang made with a cutoff wheel. the thickness fits tight in the slot for the tang and a mapp gas torch to bend it. I found that when the spring got weaker, it did not put pressure on the cam to hold the cam in place. The new pieces forced the spring to put more pressure on the on the cam and on some, I used a dremmel to make a new notch on the cam as over time the spring tends to wear the cam flat. This was very crude as I have no metal working tools but worked great. using the original springs. These remotes must have been used across multiple makes and I have seen the springs available for sale but haven't looked for them recently

I have springs on order and will tackle the job when they arrive. I have actually made a serviceable repair on one with a home made spring. this appears to be working well so far, and who knows? i might do them both like that. The advantage of the home made spring is that I was able to get it in place without dismantling the remote. I'll let you know how it all goes. I will probably show some of it in one of my videos.
