Re: penrite lube
It is mentioned in these two threads that the Penrite is 00 grease. I picked up some 00 grease at Tractor Supply for $5 and am pleased so far. This could be a cheaper alternative to the Penrite.

Re: penrite lube
I use John Deere corn head grease. About $4.50 a tube where I live in Illinois.
Works great. |

Re: penrite lube
Lube from tractor supply is exact same stuff as Pennritw at 1/4 the price.

Re: penrite lube
John, not to hi-jack your thread however just to keep muddy waters stirred up a bit, HERE is some of my thoughts on the subject of grease in a steering gearbox. Maybe y'all will agree or disagree??

Re: penrite lube
Is it just terminology?
I think of "lube" like 600w oil and "grease" like I use in a grease gun. Does Penrite make both? |

Re: penrite lube
Penrite makes numerous products. Penrite Steering Box Lube is 1200w.

Re: penrite lube
It can't be very thick if it comes in a bottle with a neck like that. I'm sure the Penrite steering box lube I use is thicker than that would be.

Re: penrite lube
Must take a long time to get it out of the bottle, especially in cold weather.

Re: penrite lube
I think many folks do like I do and heat it up via a pot of hot water before filling.

Re: penrite lube
May I ask, why do we even think we need to change the lube from the 600W to begin with?

Re: penrite lube
Hmmmm. My 7-tooth used to leak, but not any more. The tube up the middle was added, and the correct sector shaft bushings were installed. Not the water pump bushings some vendors sell.
FYI: my car had grease in the steering box when I got it. |
