Default Replacement accelerator linkage for 1939 Ford

Does anyone make a reproduction gas pedal link? Or can these be modified/replaced so they stay in place. Mine keeps slipping off the knuckle.

Picture is for reference
thank you!

Is that the part that connects to the pedal? If so it doesn't look right. Bob Drake lists the two pieces and probably other venders as well.

That part is called "gas pedal linkage rod". For your '39 the part number is 48-9727.
At C&G (800-266-0470) the price is $9.

I've restored numerous 39 Fords both very early and very late production vehicles and have never witnessed a throttle linkage that appeared even remotely similar to that one.

48-9747 is 10.75" long, it is connected to the Carb and the firewall accelerator linkage. I don't think that is what you have circled in your photo.
What your showing is not 39 Ford passenger car linkage. If you see page 4-11 & 12 of the 39 restoration book you will see the proper linkage.Do you have a photo of your linkage installed.

Note the return spring in mercurycyclone's photos above. The absence of such a spring in the non-original linkage in the photo in #1 is a serious safety hazard which could lead to a stuck wide-open throttle.

I ordered this one from cgfordparts. It's too short. They insist it's for a 1939 Ford Sedan. They said that's all they have.

It barely reaches my floor board. Here's my old one with the one they sent.

What's wrong with your original ? I have one you can have and its 4 3/8 total length.Just reimburse me for the postage after you get it.Click on my user ID and send me a message if interested.
PS if you can tig weld just graft the pedal end of the old rod to the new after measuring correctly.

The spring is stuck open. Or missing. I tried crimping it a little to hold on to the knuckle, but it still doesn't hold. It's just worn out.
Thanks Duece

Suggest you take Sheldon up on his generous offer. Ford obsoleted the original rod used in 39 and replaced it with the one used in 1941. The 41 has a different connection to the linkage end. It used a rubber insulator to isolate vibration and noise.

If you remove the metal button from your old rod and drill a hole in it. Then cut to the proper length a longer piece of linkage then insert the cut rod into the metal button and solder it in place you can make your own replacement rod.

You have been warned; your non-original jury rig accelerator cross shaft lacking a return spring is a serious safety issue that you should not ignore.
