Oil Filler Tubes Baffles Adjustment
The old girl has developed a leak that may or may not be a rear main problem (according to my reading of previous threads). The photo shows the oil dripping off the bolts (slight) and split pin (major drip!) after a drive, and the nasty drip trail that follows my car into the garage after coming up a slight incline. Yikes!
The first place I'm going to look tomorrow is the oil filler tube, and hope to find the simplest problem before I move on to explore other likely sources. Always hopeful! However, I don't know what correctly adjusted baffles should look like. Can you guys please describe what I ought to see down there, and as always, good pictures will help (as I didn't find any in my hunt). Thanks! Last edited by Hoogah; 10-24-2015 at 08:31 AM. Re: Oil Filler Tubes Baffles Adjustment
My thought is that when you add oil if it runs in fast then the baffles are open.Try running without the cap. Good luck

If you look in the service bulletins there are pictures of 3 styles of breather pipes, look on page 348, and 454

Re: Oil Filler Tubes Baffles Adjustment
I am puzzled why you would think the oil filler tube might be a cause of you oil link problem. Unless you are thinking the baffles are not allowing back pressure to flow.
I think you have a serious rear main problem.

Re: Oil Filler Tubes Baffles Adjustment
If the oil cap tabs are bent and the cap pushed on too far that can cause oil leak

Re: Oil Filler Tubes Baffles Adjustment
Besides not having the springs pushing up on the lower cap I see two other things that appear to be wrong. On the left front brake rod return spring, is the spring behind the upset on the rod, so it pushes the rod forward, as it should be? It looks like the upset may be behind the spring, or someone added something behind the spring.
The bottom plate for the battery support appears to be parallel to the mounting frame, but the bottom plate should be spot welded to the frame at an angle, so it sets squarely with the battery. |

We all were at some time!
Ask any question you want, the only bad question is the one not asked! Except asking about which oil to use or if you should get white walls. (do a search and you'll understand the joke)

Re: Oil Filler Tubes Baffles Adjustment
The oil cap tabs should be bent so the cap can't go down too far.
