Crazy gas gauge fix from years gone by
I was working on a car last week and I looked at the gas tank I through the filler hole and with tank empty saw a light bulb at the bottom. I though great.. how am I getting that one out! I had to laugh and then looked closer and you can see the photos... I've seen lots of fixes but this one takes the cake!
If it would have had wires to it it one would have been a bomb and two a lighted gas gauge! Larry Shepard |

I'd wire it up then you can see inside the filler tube during night time fill ups!!!

If the tank was over 3/4 full and the fuel visible in the glass, and the bulb was lit.
Wow, Illuminated from behind real fuel. |

You know, while we are all grinning and shaking our head at this, who ever did this was using their noggin' and applied some good ole common sense to fix a problem. I wish this world had more "thinkers" like the person who thought that 'fix' up!!

It's early morning here so I didn't get to see this post till after lots of you over there. I was thinking exactly what Brent said. This fix is better than the original float in so far as it won't get soaked in fuel and sink.

Re: Crazy gas gauge fix from years gone by
For you guys in OZ, do you know an early commodore float ( I used a VP one) fits right on the A shaft and fits thru the gauge hole...
No more sinkers. Oh wait, if the judges look inside the tank, you will lose points. |

Most Judges won't be able to see past the spark arrester if it is correctly installed.

Re: Crazy gas gauge fix from years gone by
Both of my cowl tanked cars don't have spark arresters.
Modern bowsers are supposed to be anti-static, but every time I fill up, I have a slight nervous moment when the metal nozzle touches the tank neck . |
