gumpy i saw drakes 40 again at this years roadster show. its looking better in its proped up stage. the roof is still not fastened. i forgot to ask bob about the completion date as we were talking how confused every body is about which floor fits what model [ conv, opera coupe, business coupe, 5 window coupe, club coupe, coupe chicken coupe ]. you have some restorers who insist that every one call the coupes what they perceive is correct and most others that call them by what has made sense for the last 71 years even though it may not be technically correct. most people figure if it has opera seats its an opera coupe . if used together the two rear floor sections that bob makes for a NON opera coupe will fit a conv as is, with no cutting contrary to whats written in bob`s catalog. the original conv rear floors were made out of three sections but were the same stamping as the non opera coupe. now i`ve got myself confused i think.

My opinion.... I'm glad that Bob D has taken on this project regardless of some possible slight differences between his product and the original Henry '40. It has always been a dream for me that someone, maybe even FOMOCO, would someday bring some of these icon early Ford V8's back into at least limited production. Maybe owners of original '40's are concerned that Bob's '40 will devalue their cars but based on the Brookville '32 not devalueing the original '32's, they probably have nothing to worry about. JMHO

Now my real dream is that someone will bring an all steel '35 or '36 3 window coupe back into production

Al, just a friendly FYI, the software on this forum will allow you to go back and edit your original post rather than making addition posts to try to clarify other statements.

I wondered the same thing when they came out with the "new" 67 Mustang Fastbacks. By the time you buy and build it, you could have just got an original. I've seen a lot of smokin deals on 40's lately.

Just looked at the brochure on BD's site for the 40. He shows $14,500 for an estimated price. Ouch.

Talked with a friend in Missoula today that got two rear quarter panels, rear pan, trunk pieces etc. Said in a word "excellent". Perfict fit and metal was the same thickness as his original car. The pieces are installed and he's more than happy with the parts. Waited a long time and many calls to BD.

here's the competition, http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/s...d.php?t=539557 was $19,000 six months ago, now $17,000 still for sale. and it's real ford, with a title.
