Factory directionals on Pickups?
What year did Ford first put the directionals control lever in the steering column on the Pickups?

Re: Factory directionals on Pickups?
I don't know when they became standard equipment but the July 1950
parts book shows them in the accessories section. 8C 18440-A turn indicator switch & harness assembly 48-50. Bob |

Re: Factory directionals on Pickups?
They were an option in '51, the "arrow" turn indicator lights are a part of the instrument cluster (Speedometer).

Re: Factory directionals on Pickups?
Actually I am wondering when Ford built them into the steering column and not just added them on to the column?

Re: Factory directionals on Pickups?
Our '53 Crestline Sunliner has factory (built in, not added on) turn signals, I believe they were an option. Our '53 F-100 Panel Delivery has the "arrows" on the dash and could be installed in the steering column.

Re: Factory directionals on Pickups?
My shop manual doesn't mention turn signals and its 49-52 so I'm thinking like others said probably a dealer option thru 52

Re: Factory directionals on Pickups?
The parts books are vague on the 53-56 switch assembly as being a switch and plate assy. They also changed the basic part number from a 18440 ( accessory ) to a 13341 which was the same basic up thru the late 90's. I know the 57-60 mseries trucks were definitely under the wheel.

Re: Factory directionals on Pickups?
For trucks 51 and 52 had the turn indicators in the dash gauge but the switch was not integral to the column. The exterior turn lights were separate from the park and stop lights. Pretty sure it was 53 that the switch went inside the column and dual filament bulbs on the exterior. I modified my 52 using a 53-55 column head and switch and wiring.
