Default Painting a chromed part

Hi Barners,

The rear window surround on the rear convertible top of my 1936 Club Cabriolet is a two piece unit. The exterior section should be chrome plated and the interior portion painted Sand color to match the top irons. Both of mine are chromed and I need to paint the interior piece.
I am looking for suggestions on how to prep this piece for paint?
Thanks in advance, Bruce/CT

Tape off the good chromed portion to protect it. Then sand blast it very carefully or sand it with 220. Then epoxy primer Then paint it.

I would sand blast it with fine grit than couple coats of epoxy primer before putting on your top coat.

Another option (and what I probably would do) is to take the inner half to a chrome plating shop and have it chrome stripped. Then prep for paint.

Bruce,
What makes you believe your car should have a painted interior window frame?

Here's 36 cabriolet that appears to have a painted interior rear window frame.

Here's another. I would have thought that the inside and outside frame were both chrome plated.

V8COOPMAN,
Through 1935 and well in to 1936, the inside frames were in fact chrome plated. I don't have access to exactly when the change to painted (inside) came about in 1936, other than "late" per the Early Ford V8 Club's restoration manual.

Hey Kube...I was NOT offering an opinion. I was just making that picture easier to view. DD

Jack E/NJ,
When I composed this question I didn't realize that it was going to be checked so closely for word content. My writing has rarely been reviewed since high school - 50 years ago plus 8 years of additional schooling.
I guess NEED was a little strong. It is my go-to phrase. I might have better used something like WANT or DESIRE. Please accept my sincerest apology.
