Default Starting Problem 8BA

1947 Truck with a 1950 8BA. it is 6-volt, positive ground with a good battery and new solenoid ECHST53 from NAPA. All connections are clean, bright and tight.

The other day when I jumped it directly to the starter, it turned the engine although slowly. Today after installing the solenoid, all I get is a healthy chatter from it when I use the start button, and no starter action.

Starter going or gone bad? Thanks

How did you determine that the battery is "good" ?

How old is the battery and is it holding a charge? Volt meter readings?

Sounds like a battery issue to me. Since you already double checked the connections can you jump start it from a known good battery or jump start box?
I leaning towards the engine ground connection or a bad cable.

Another thought would be to take your jumper cable and use it as an additional battery ground from the + to the engine block and see what happens. Chap

Problem Solved: It was a bad battery! It was 5 years old and held a charge well and gave me 6.7 volts across the terminals so I foolishy thought it was "good". I bought a new battery and now all is well. Thanks to all.
