Default 1940 Ignition Plate Replacement

I am about to remove the bakelite 3-terminal ignition switch plate and the small triangular brush inside for inspection, clean-up, or replacement. Is there anything holding the brush in there and if so, how does the brush detach? Or, will it fall out onto the floorboard when I unscrew and remove the terminal plate? How do you hold the brush up there when reinstalling the plate? Thanks in advance.

It'll come with the metal housing. If you are careful and tip the housing, you won't drop it. Once you have it out, you'll quickly see how it is placed in there. A small protrusion in the metal housing affords a dimple on which the brush plate pivots.
Not to worry.. it only goes together one way.
