Default 1928-29 Oval Face speedo calibrated for Kilometers

I have 2 unrestored, original, oval face speedometers here that were setup from the factory to report speed in km/hr and for the odometer to read km.

Inside the "0" at rest, it says KILO vertically in very small font.

I am offering these "free to a good home" for any FB member that could use them on their car. I only ask to be reimbursed for my actual shipping cost to you.

They are both Stewart-Warner speedometers with a number 36283 stamped on the back.

Please contact me by PM or email to arrange shipping.

That is an awesome offer, Jim!

While I'm a stone throw from Canada, I think I'll stick to miles... :-)

Someone within the past year was searching for a KILO speedometer. Hope he sees this.

My only concern would be getting the MTO to understand that a car that has had the mileage reported in miles for 87 years is all of a sudden in Kilometres.

Potential dumb question from downunder: Why is the MTO interested in how far your car has been driven?

In any case, perhaps a before and after speedo change photo of the instrument panel could provide whatever proof is required?

I don't know about the MTO, but I do know that the DMV in California is very picky about accurate mileage representation, especially during changes in ownership. If a speedometer is replaced, I believe it has to be set to the same mileage as the one it replaced, or a document filed stating what the mileage was at time of replacement.

Messing with odometers is not taken lightly!

Every year when you buy plates you have to report the mileage on the car to MTO (Ministry of Transport Ontario). They hassled my friend one year because he only drove his car 7 miles. I'm not sure how they would handle the switch to kilometres....typical government agency....not very flexible.

The speedometers are now spoken for. Thanks to all for your interest!
