draggin49,
Thanks for asking questions that a lot of us might be too embarrassed to ask. We all learn when someone asks. I learned something! Keep V-8ing and 4-banging!

Re: How do I operate /control my headlights on my 32 roadster
Question regarding the headlight . When I start the car up and turn the headlight control switch to the right my headlights come on. However , when I start backing up or turning the steering wheel the light control switch goes back to the 6 o clock (off) position.
Thoughts ??? |

With the looks of the wring in the pictures I would be concerned on shorts to ground. Do you have individual circuit fusing? |

The wiring is pretty worn. I’m starting to think it might be a good idea to take the time and re-wire the car , maybe replace that switch too. By the looks of things some of the wiring is probably original based on how worn it looks |

Re: How do I operate /control my headlights on my 32 roadster
if the rod going up the inside of the shaft from the switch to the lever is bent, it will drag on the steering shaft and turn off the lights they are quite fragile and get bent easy when stored during the project

A long shot would be the possibility of some debris caught between the handle plate and the recess in the steering wheel in which it is nested.

I think it's important to fuse individual components for a couple of reasons. The proper sized fusing will protect the wire from overheating. If lets say your horn shorts out, it doesn't effect the rest of the components. They will still be able to operate. Individual fusing allows easier trouble shooting. You're only working on the one circuit. If you are going to rewire you will need to do your homework, especially if you changed things like adding directionals. Draw everything on paper. I have an electrical background and still need to draw things out. Rumble Seat is a good source of info. www.flatheadv8.org and VanPelt. Of course search the Barn and HAMB. Good luck! Re: How do I operate /control my headlights on my 32 roadster
I have been debating on taking the body off the frame and powdercoating everything. The body is in great shape , paint is an old lacquer job with lots of spiderwebbing cracks /chipped areas . So I may do a repaint but I can live with it for the time being .Since I want to daily drive this car it might make the most sense to bite the bullet and rewire the entire car . Like some of you said , the wiring is most likely original and is pretty worn.
