Default water pump

The water outlet housing we installed on my grandson's 30 Tudor has a boss for a temp probe for a temp gauge. The boss is definitely a 1\2" pipe thread. The temp probe itself looked to be a 3\8 pipe fitting thread. So, I obtained a brass adapter the has a 1\2" pipe thread outside and a 3\8" pipe thread inside. But I found the probe fit inside the adapter too loose. So I obtained an adapter that was a 1\2" pipe thread outside and a 1\4" pipe thread inside. It did not fit at all because it was too small. So, the question is: what kind of an adapter do I need to obtain to make this all fit? And where do I get it?

You should have gotten the bushing that you need with your temperature gauge. If I weren’t so busy this weekend, I’d drive up and drop it off for you. I probably have 6 of them.

Is that bushing a special or is it an off the shelf hardware store item? Is the latter, what are the specs? Thanks.

Maybe 3/8 pipe on the cast part. The bushing will have a special bevel on the inside to seat the gauge bulb.

there is a special adapter, it as a shoulder inside for the bulb to seat against, ford had them to adapt earlier senders to later heads that had tapered pipe threads in the heads
Ford has 01a-1889 for part number, also aftermarket bulb type senders have adapters, perhaps stewart warner

My thanks to all that responded. A special thanks to Katy for answering the question exactly. He described what I needed to make it all fit and where to get it. I have it on order.
