My wife is a keeper
My wife and I have lived out of the country and away from my old cars most of our married life, we are coming up on 43 years. I will definitely do the math to check that before our anniversary arrives just to be safe. We got engaged after a ride in my dad's 31 roadster (now mine).
We have moved to NC to take care of my wife's parents and what will probably be our final home. I doubt if my new job will take me away from home. Fortunately this is where my cars have been stored for years, safe indoors but neglected. After getting the house remodeled and moved in, I have now started sorting and working on my shop so I can get to my cars and get the roadster running and finish restoring the others. My wife walked down to the shop the other day, probably for the first time and looked in. The words that came from her were priceless! She said, "You don't have very many cars." Now I don't want to read into her statement but if you were me wouldn't you have understood her meaning as, "Why don't you go buy that Phaeton that you have always wanted." At least that is what I heard her say.....

I'm sure that's what she meant.

Re: My wife is a keeper
Sounds like you have a phaeton on the way. This is the sign in front of my garage. Yes, it keeps solicitors away.

Re: My wife is a keeper
Be careful, she might want a Miata, be very very careful. I have a wife of 49 yrs, a 94 year old mother in-law, three daughters, three grand daughters. I know how "they" think, I am starting to shiver ;~)))

Old Blue Oval,
That could be taken two ways. My friend Tom said, after three wives, that the next time he wanted to get married he would just buy the lady a house. He died with 3 antique cars and no wife.

Re: My wife is a keeper
I saw the skit and the old boy’s expressions only meant it one way!!!
I had a friend that married five times; twice to same woman. I told him he needed to do the same thing about houses! He’s been with the current lady over 20! Maybe he learned precious lessons |

Re: My wife is a keeper
Yes she is a keeper. My wife is the same. She evens acts surprised when I want to sell an old bike or car to make room/money for another. When i bought mt Model A speedster she was out of the country visiting her parents. I text her saying I am buying a car and she texts back "Cool. Do you need any money?"

Re: My wife is a keeper
Stretch,
I think she is approving of some purchase or maybe just evaluating your net worth in rare / vintage autos? Or as mentioned she may want one of her own to fill in the space? Anyway my wife of almost 50 years was not as happy when I told her we were expecting a new Ford project to be entering our lives soon. I hope she can learn to like it a little! I am excited! Regards, Chris |

Re: My wife is a keeper
When I showed my wife pictures of the 29AA that I happened to find in a barn my wife said "I think you should buy it" Words I will never forget.
31 years and going strong.

Re: My wife is a keeper
I knew I married the right woman when she came home and found that I had loaded the dishwasher with motorcycle parts. Rather than get mad, she made recommendations on how to arrange them better. We will celebrate 32 years in August.

Re: My wife is a keeper
Love the stories. When my wife and I went to look at my first Model A, she said, "I love that car!" Needless to say, we bought it. I knew I had the right woman before that day, but I loved hearing her say that. We now have five. I am looking at another.

Re: My wife is a keeper
My wife and myself have different tastes in cars mostly, except for the muscle car era. She loves the big large boats and I can't get enough of the 20's and 30's.
Been together over 20 years, I did recently add another motorcycle to the collection, never told her. Got to the DMV and I just texted her a picture of title and Registration asking if she could call and add to our insurance. Her reply was "sure no problem, guess that is the new bike sitting downstairs." |

Re: My wife is a keeper
When I overhauled my outboard motor I ran a lot of the parts through the dishwasher. My wife was 500 miles away at the time. The dishwasher detergent etched the aluminum parts to make the paint stick better. So be careful what you put in the machine or maybe what detergent you use.
A friend who's wife was not found on him buying more antique cars would stash additional purchases in storage units.

Re: My wife is a keeper
My wife is a keeper also. I often mention that old cars a like potato chips. I now have four. But as I said, my wife is a keeper. She would walk past my cars in the garage and out into the driveway in the snow and ice and scrape off the windshield of her car before she would go to work. I had left for work an hour earlier, walked past her car and never gave it thought. Gosh, I was a pig!! Ed
