Optima 6V Battery Mounting Options
Hi All,
New to the forum. I have a 1950 Custom and I recently purchased an Optima 6v battery for it after the previous battery soiled itself. I've been looking for options that will mount in the stock location (the car is stock and I don't want to drill any holes but I want it to look clean. The options I've seen out there appear to be more geared towards hot rods (shiny billet etc), I'd like something low key. I love the one below but mounting will be a challenge. https://www.hotrodsbydean.com/produc...-battery-hold/ Thanks, Brian |

Re: Optima 6V Battery Mounting Options
You can buy an empty case with a top cover and put the Optima in it. The posts stick up in the corners, and with the top on, it looks like a stock battery. I got mine on eBay. It worked fine but it cost more than it should have in my opinion.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/29418887030...oaAut2EALw_wcB There have been guys who get an old 6 volt battery, gut the case, make a top and run that way. I can get you a picture of mine if you want to see it. |

Re: Optima 6V Battery Mounting Options
Those are interesting options thanks...does the battery move around in the case or is it mounted within the case?

Re: Optima 6V Battery Mounting Options
There's an Optima in there. It fits snuggly when inserted diagonally, and I never had to use any spacers or anything.
Please excuse the mess; the trees up here are in full rut. |

Re: Optima 6V Battery Mounting Options
I used a block of wood, like Newc
Tubman’s solution looks good, but agree price is a bit too much |

Aesthetics vs functionality. Both work.

When I feel like doing a dirty job, I plan of gutting that case and using it with my existing top. This is obviously a cheaper and better solution. |

Yes the Ford script battery would be ideal...I'm curious if anyone in the states offers one

Re: Optima 6V Battery Mounting Options
Since no one rebuilds batteries any more (that I am aware of), there have to be a bunch of them floating around out there. The problem is finding one and then having it shipped to you.
I seem to remember that someone used to offer them, but when I looked, no luck. |

Re: Optima 6V Battery Mounting Options
I saw another post that said you should have a hole in the case to let the Optima breathe...has anyone had an issue with that?

Re: Optima 6V Battery Mounting Options
If you look at the size of the holes for the battery posts on he eBay item and also consider that the top is a rather loose fit, I don't think extra venting is necessary. On mine, I use those green and red felt "post washers" to cover up the large holes.
