Default 1939 windshield regulator

my windshield regulator on my 39 standard sedan needs to be replaced I have loosened the 3 bolts holding it into the cage, under the dash, but I can't remove the regulator, as the threaded rod will not pass the top of the dash. Is there a trick ?? or do I have to take out the dash ?

As I recall, you'll have to take the dash out.

Remove the dash top. The gears on the reg ae probably sheared. There are repacement gears available. Or replace the reg with a used one. No one repros the 39 reg.

Hey wisbangman. took mine out yesterday, & put it back. took it out again today & found my problem. I simply took the screws out of the top of the dash. They would be found under the winshield trim. Get far enough under the dash to see what you are doing. Pull the regulator with your right hand towards the driver side. At the same time pull top of dash out towards the rear of car. It helps if you remove throttle pull first. The top of the dash will move enough to remove the regulator.
Hope this works. Now if I can find a regulator we both will be happy campers.
