I'm with JackShaft. Rattle can silver witch can handle heat ,both sides of composite gasket.
It absorbs it and if in need gasket is easier to remove. Worked great OT twin turbo V8.
Fel Pro´s don't need anything .

Best calls for copper coat on their composite and copper clad head gaskets.

So I follow their recommendation. I use grease on other gaskets such as intake.

Most of the old timers I knew used silver spray paint of any brand back in the day. Some paid a few cents extra and used the Copper Coat. Both worked OK.

The silver rattle can enamel has aluminum powder in it and the copper types have copper powder in it. Both are soft metals that will function as a sealer. In aviation, we still used both copper and aluminum washers to seal some banjo bolts. Spark plugs are still sealed with a copper washer to this day.

I have used Aluminum paint most of the time and had zero problems ,I installed a set of offy heads in 1979, I removed them from an 8 B.A after 20 years they were sealed with aluminum paint and there is no sign of corrosion, I also treat my coolant with D.C.A. and also test the voltage in the cooling system every six months.

I once talked to an old modified stock car racer from SC in the 50's that used home rendered lard on his head gaskets.

Smokey Yunick told me to use aluminum paint either spray or brush.
I have never blown a flathead Ford head gasket and we run 14 to 1 compression on circle track engines.

I have used copper coat on my Model A and T head gaskets.
Yet to do my V8 yet . Tend to use grease on others but more to hold them in place than anything.

M151 Nam era jeeps had a steel head gasket, had to spray paint them to seal..Aluminum heads are sexy but are prone to electrolysis, need to run a waste metal bar in the cooling system.Thermal expansion rates are different than Ford grey iron too.
